Rock on a roll
Kaati Zone offers desi fast food — the essential paratha with filling you can grab on the move
Kaati Zone on has many outlets in the city and we decided to eat at the Church Street outlet. The place resembles the western chain of fast food joints. But the specialty is that it offers truly desi khaana in a no nonsense way. It is here that the humble paratha gets a makeover and is served in varied avatars. They come as crisp cheese toasts, rolls and even shaped as triangular crispies with a generous amount of vegetables and cheese.
The menu is tiny and offers just enough variety to choose from. We start our meal with the lovely tangy green sprout salad (Rs. 40) and the paneer salad. The sprout salad really light on the tummy. While the sprouts are tangy and have a generous amount of the chaat masala powder, the latter leans more towards the cream and cheese and with the paneer as a main ingredient, and is a bit on the heavier side.
Then there are starters like the crispy vegetable cutlets (Rs. 25), French fries and the lovely golden chicken nuggets (Rs. 50), which come with tomato ketchup, green chutney or a cheese dip. We chose all the three and made sure that not a crumb of these crispy delights were wasted.
For the main course there are the famous Kaati Rolls. These are thick parathas made into rolls with a wide range of fillings, with options for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The parathas come in three sizes — mini, regular and jumbo. Each is priced differently, according to the filling with the options are many. Mixed vegetables, tava paneer, chicken crispy, chicken chatpata, chicken tikka, and mutton sheekh. Having one jumbo roll is enough to keep you going.
The mini aloo Amritsari roll is priced at Rs. 25 and the egg and…More
