Eric Soubeiran feels that the vibrant Indian ethos holds a magnetic charm
Interesting India offers plenty of options
Eric Soubeiran, Business Managing director, Rexam Pharma came to Bangalore three years ago from France and has been fascinated by the energy and vibrancy that the country and the city offers. “It has been an amazing experience. India is a youngcountry and the benefits of liberalisation and the opening up of the economy are being seen. It is gradually reaching all sections of society. In spite of recession, India has registered growth in all economic parameters, which is impressive. I also like the superb weather that Bangalore provides.”
He feels, “I come from France, which is more formal than India. I like the work culture here, which is very different from Europe. I also like the fact that people like to spendtime with their families , unlike most of Europe, which is highly individualistic.”
Eric likes travelling and has toured India extensively.
He quips: “I have been to Kerala, Tripura, Rajastan, Manipur and many other places. I am quite amazed by the changes in landscape, culture, food habits etc. The diversities India offers makes it much more beautiful and interesting.”
Eric has been awed by the development in Bangalore over the past couple of years, but feels that the government must step in to sort out infrastructure problems.
“I feel that even as the city grows at an exponential pace, infrastructure has been ignored. The traffic jams, problem of broken roads and the electricity crisis must be resolved soon, if Bangalore must make a mark as a world city.” He states: “I have been in the city for three years and can feel the transformation. It is necessary that the government takes some action, before the facilities collapse.”
Eric is also a great fan of Indian food. “I love palak paneer, black dal, tandoori items and Punjabi food a…More

Tasty Tangles offers a ginormous spread of South Asian delicacies
DELECTABLE Every dish has a distinct taste
Tasty Tangles is located on the second floor of the UB City mall, and is flanked by a host of other restaurants that share the food court area. The interiors of the restaurant are well done and reassemble a bistro, with a hint of an East Asian setting. Long chandeliers add a great deal to the overall décor of the place. The eating area is close to the live kitchen, where the chefs dish out the culinary delights from South East Asia.
The manager says: “To get a better idea of the dishes and the flavouring, you must try out the entire helping.”
The menu concept is quite innovative. You tick the items you want from the rather long and exhaustive menu list. We start with the crispy fried vegetable spring rolls, which provide a distinct taste and is not very heavy on oil. The vegetables are cooked well and have a nice crunchy feeling. The prawn bag and sweet chilli sauce is cooked well; the prawns are tender, and taste superb with the tangy chilli sauce.
We try out the tom yam gung with straw mushrooms and prawns. The soup is prepared with a hint of coconut milk, providing a wonderful flavour. The soup provides an interesting play of flavours and whets the appetite. The prawn and mushrooms complement the preparation and adds to the taste and flavouring a great deal.
Moving on to the main course, we sample the nasi goreng kampong, a type of Malaysian spicy fried rice that exudes a spicy taste and is high on flavouring.
It serves as a good combination with Singaporean black pepper lamb. The spiciness of the preparation and the soft, tender lamb pieces make this dish a definite must-try.
The egg fried rice is also a fine and simple preparation that…More

Student designers display their creative academic works
Photo: Sampath Kumar G.P.INVENTIVE The designs are inspired by nature
“Go green” is the theme. And, the graphic designs are stunning. On display at “Anti Pretty” the annual design exhibition of WLC College India, the designs are inspired from Nature. So, you have floral patterns, plant life, water splashes, butterflies, rain drops and abstract themes, all in the form of graphic art, created by students as part of a competition.
The top three graphics from this contest, conducted by REVA with WLC, will be used to deck the environmental-friendly REVA car. This is just one of the initiatives of what the students call “designing with conscience”.
You will find lots more. There are art works on surfboards, all to convey a message. Students Diana and Sumeena have designed a surfboard with an image of an elephant and the story is “Once upon a time there lived an elephant. The End”. Diana Saldanha has taken brand logos that use animal images as their mascots to send across the message “Be animal conscious”.
First year students Bharath Ganesh, Sumita Nanda and Avinash Mishra take me through the academic works of students done in art, photography, advertising and graphic designs. Sharing space with photographs of ‘junk sculptures’ (created from wires and bulbs) are the photographs of students manipulated in Photoshop giving them a surrealistic feel. Sumita has added images of crows (one of them eating up her image) to get the effect.
In one of the advertisement posters, Gods and goddesses get a modern look and sport a green symbol on their hands to advertise for eco-friendly bags. Avinash uses images of ordinary men imitating Bollywood stars to convey the impact of the programmes of a FM radio channel.
Students have created social campaigns too. The one on “Don’t throw garbage, when you dirty your environment you end up dirtying yourself”…More
