Makeovers are not easy to give. Or to receive, for that matter. While change is what might drive you to a salon, it is an apprehension of that same change that makes the appointment all the more an edgy affair.
Stepping into the white and steel Jean-Claude Biguine Salon and Spa, one waits with quirky anticipation to meet the salon’s senior French hairstylist Patrick Bezza.
In the meanwhile, in a future-forward, gory images of what might happen to the tresses at the hands of a Frenchman, play out. It may be an uneven cut made only for an emaciated French model, it may be one you might want to hide their face behind. Others might just ask you “Oh My God! What happened to you?”Snip, cut, done
But the sprightly Patrick Bezza, with his spiky little blonde hairdo and black t-shirt that reads “Beautyfull” just dismisses all trepidation when he says a quick hello and whisks you straight to the chair. He goes straight for the tresses, lets it cascade down and is comical as he mimes with it to make it look never-ending: “This is really long!!” He’s already decided what to do with all that hair, I realise, when he quickly bunches it up with a rubberband somewhere near my shoulder, and wants to know if it’s ok if he doesn’t retain the length. A “yes” later, he just gets rid of whatever is below the rubberband with two quick loud snips. “There’s your ponytail,” he says and tosses this dismembered part of me on to the table in front.
