How impotent can we be?

Posted in Current Affairs at 6:14 am by The Intellectual Terrorist

Today there were serial blasts in over 6 trains(and one station, a total of 7 blasts) in Mumbai city. The time the bombs detonated was 6:00 pm, which is the time the trains are full as office goers return home. The timing was bang on target, maximum bodies in a minimum time frame. I’ve traveled Mumbai trains in peak hours and people barely get space to stand. A bomb exploding in such a confined place would definitely do it’s job.

It’s time India acknowledged the threat that we face from cross border terrorism and actually did something about it. The LET(Lashkar e Toiba) and JM(Jaish Muhammad) are the main suspects. We’ve been playing quiet diplomatic games for too long. We’ve discussed the issue at the UN for too long, we’ve sent across too many buses to Pakistan, too many artistes, too much effort that served no purpose. Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan’s ex Prime Minister in a recent interview to NDTV news has herself accepted a hardliner stand on Kashmir and accepted responsibility for militancy there. She’s further blamed the current regime for introducing foreign militants, the attack on Parliament, the Mumbai blasts , pretty much all terror activities in the last few years. If Pakistan’s highest ranking official is willing to take credit for militancy and also blaming the current regime for it, we need look no further. (Not that we didn’t know this, but when an ex-PM is willing to accept responsibility why look further ?)

India has historically held an extremely soft stand to the killing of Indian nationals be it in Mumbai, Delhi or anywhere on Indian soil or abroad. How many more people need to die before India has the courage to say what Benazir Bhutto has admitted: that Pakistan is responsible for all acts of terrorism in India, since they are the only ones to gain the maximum mileage out of it. There’s no other outfit out there that stands to gain by selling terror in India.

India has historically opted for blaming the ‘padausi desh’. We’ve never even had the conviction to say ‘Pakistan’. Let’s stand up for the blood of every innocent person that was spilled today. Let our political machinery, the media , PR firms and every citizen who has a voice condemn Pakistan’s spread of terror. India should go on record and denounce Pakistan as a terrorist state that harbors and funds elements of terror. The United States has just announced a package to Pakistan for arms and weapons. They should reconsider such initiatives or risk being associated with a terrorist state themselves. Let’s make every life taken count. Let’s shake every hand of friendship that comes from across the border. Let’s cut off every hand that rises to take an Indian life.

(On another issue: The Shiv Sena went on a rampage on the desecration of Meenatai’s statue.
What exactly is Meenatai Thackeray’s contribution to state politics, apart from being related to Balashaeb Thackeray ?
Tomorrow every leader will erect a memorial for his spouse and go on the rampage if someone defiles it. The state has lost over Rs 2 crore in damages, and unaccounted figures since there was a bandh called. If the Shive Sena considers the statue important they should ensure that there is 24X7 security around it and it is protected, rather than hold the state ransom for their foolish emotions.

Doesn’t 174 people being killed count for nothing? Why don’t they do something here instead of wasting time on trivia? Why not do something for the farmers in Vidharbha committing suicide. The Rs 2 crores lost here could have saved 400 lives and the families that they support. )
